Wellington B.III, BJ600, of 156 Squadron, RAF, had left its base RAF Warboys at 22.45 hrs in the night of 13th September, 1942, for a bombing mission to Bremen, Germany. On the flight home, the bomber crashed at 03.13 hrs in the morning of 14th September, 1942 near Loozen, approximately 3 kilometres south of Gramsbergen, Overijssel. There were no survivors. The crew, of which P/O Brough was the captain, was buried here in Gramsbergen:

Sgt Aubrey Herbert Bale (left) was air gunner in the crew of Sgt C.H. Phillips, 7 Squadron. He lost his life on 4 December, 1943, when his aircraft, Lancaster B.III JA685 crashed at De Krim, Northwest of Gramsbergen.
