At 23.37 hrs in the night of 3rd June, 1942, Lancaster B.I, R5847/EM-Y, of 207 Squadron, left its base at RAF Bottesford for an operation to Bremen, Germany. Over Dutch territory the bomber was attacked by a German night fighter. R5847 crashed at 01.14 hrs near Zwiggelte, to the south-east of Assen. There were no survivors. The 7-man crew was buried here in Westerbork General Cemetery:
